Czech figural powder box
« on: October 16, 2008, 03:56:37 PM »
Can anyone ID the factory of this piece. It is about 200mm, 8" high.

There is an impressed mark but very unclear, third image is best I could get it to show.

Any idea of value would be appreciated as I have had it for 20+ years and no longer follow prices. I presume these type of pieces are still popular.

Hi Frank, and Welcome.  :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

I can't quite make out the mark in the 3rd pix.  I have tried to rub *ashes*  over marks to help highlight them when on white.....or even a dark *wax* crayon with a light rub will help.  As long as it will wipe off....with soap or water.

A product called 409 will help to remove the crayon, if you have it there.... but I like ashes (yes, I am also a smoker, so I have a few ashes here)  :-\

Perhaps you could try that, and then re-post another pix?  Is that a number under the triangle?  I can't tell....

SHE IS GORGEOUS..

Added:  Might that be a ACORN in the triangle ??        ???? Royal dux, Bohemia ????

http://www.porcelainmarksandmore.com/bohemia/dux_1/00.php  Scroll down to the pictures, and go to the SIXTH ROW, THE LAST PICTURE -- Is that one similar or not?  It shows an acorn in a triangle  with no letter in the in the acorn, quote: " [3] : Used between 1918 and 1945, no letter in the acorn."   So maybe it is (?) [3] : Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur A.G.

Maybe ??

:cheerleader: that is the one! A quick scan on eBay indicates that they do not seem to sell well, although not a single powder box...

Looking at completed powder boxes the closest I found in terms of quality/subject were by Sitzendorf and sold around $160...  :scot:

Not tempting, although the lack of anything quite as lovely as this might indicate they are in great demand but rare :sk3:

I used to have a shop just before the start of Art Deco popularity and used to get a lot of it - I kept the best and this is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing that passed through my hands. I had been wondering whether to pack or sell, decided on pack  :old:

Hi Frank - Glad I hit one, finally...it was a wild guess that time.  ;D

Personally, I think I would keep her for the following reasons:

1.  Looks Art Deco to me, and with the band in her hair - well that seals it for me.
2.  She is Nude....which I think makes her more desirable, I would think.
3.  Plain, yet elegant...Sophisticated, yet desirable
4.  Looks like it is in mint shape
5.  And a bit usual, or (perhaps) that is why you have not seen on Ebay in regards to design - and powder box
6.  And you can't help but to love the sleekness of her, with the blanket over her legs

I too think you should keep her -- and love her.  :heart3: She has found a home....  BEAUTIFUL

...least it seems like I think we had one somewhere....

Just a question.....is it an ACORN or a upside down BEEHIVE mark?  Maybe rubbing ashes on it will show more.

Here is a page with some marks on it -- and some have what looks like either a ACORN or a BEEHIVE on them.

http://www.collectorscircle.com/bohemian/porcelain/marks_table1.html

Take a peek around there....might help to lead US somewhere....
