Arthur Wood Teapot - Age and Worth?
« on: September 05, 2008, 03:39:57 AM »
I am cleaning out my cupboards and found a few things that I really should let go of as I never use them.  This teapot is one of those.  I would like to know it's age...rough idea of worth to know if I should try to sell it at a dealer or just give away.  It is very well used and has a chip on the spout, so I can't imagine its worth all that much.  Picture attached.

Thank you!

Hi Welcome to the board. For us to even guess at the age we need to see the base mark please, although it looks very 1950s/1960s

Christine,

Thanks for the reply.  It is tough to get a picture of the markings with my crummy camera, but with that said, I have attached a picture.  The number stamped in gold is 5148.  Oddly, the word ANTIQUE is also impressed into the bottom. Which of course, makes me think it is not worth much.  Antiques are just that because of their age, not because someone put the word into the pottery.

Thanks!
Michelle

ANTIQUE could be the pattern name or the shape name then. Have a look at www.replacements.com and see if it's listed there under Wood's patterns.
Cheers!

I found an example of a mark like yours here but no indication of age. The pattern is this case also looks to date from the 1950s/60s, see here
