Ashtray, unknown, appears to have the mark either 570, or 540 on it.  Foam glazed, with red clay showing through on legs :sign_help:.  Any ideas anyone?

Rose, what are the letters on the other edge? I can see P A ... I think? then others fading away.
Cheers!

Hi  :bny:

My what *good* eyes you must have....I really had to look, but I think I see where you mean now, but I still only see (poss) a *A* there (can't see a *P* yet).....I have deleted all the other pictures I had taken so I will dig out this dish, and take some more pictures to see if we can make anything else out.....

You mean this that looks like a *A*....where I cropped....

If I was to guess (??) I was thinking maybe Evangeline Pottery (Canadian ??) since I have some other pieces by them, and did put numbers on their items, but then on those pieces, they also had their name on it (incised)....

The glaze on here is so thick, you can not make out much...but the only other reason I (might) think it is (poss) Evangeline Pottery is by this site:

http://www.canadiandesignresource.ca/officialgallery/?cat=2

If you *scroll* to the very bottom of this page, you will see Candle holders, and they show the bottom legs there (and color of clay).  Both my ashtray clay color, and legs seem to be (??) the same...

What do you think?  In the meantime, I will take some more photos to see if I can pick up anything more (in the light) of this base....

 :24: :24: :o

Thanks Lustrousstone.  I do not know IF looking at the feet (and color) of clay will help -- but both the example and mine seem to be very close.  I forgot I still have some more photos on my camera, and when I looked at what Ann was talking about.....I do see another letter now, but to me it (?) looks like it is a *C* then a *A*.  Possibly for the words CANADA.  I will post another picture later, as I am still going to take some new pics to see if the sunlight can bring out anything more...anywhere on the bottom.

And Yes....I had to look twice at that one too, and still can not  believe it.  I do not think my (or yours) eyes are deceiving us.  But I (guess) Art, is Art..... :24: :o

WOW, on that one, eh?  Why bother putting a Plant in it.....  :czy: as whom is going to look at the plant.  Sometime...I just do not understand ART.....

Try the talcum powder thing, sprinkle it on all over and then very lightly brush it off so it stays in the dents

Will try...but the thick glaze has ran into the indented name...I will try the powder, and I wonder if a pencil rub might work...I try anything.....

Rose, I can see a circle as well away from the letters - as if something was stamped in a darker ink perhaps. It's only just visible and hard to make out any detail...

... and I'd missed the Park Planters - I went back to have a look - oooerrrr!   :thd:

Hi, here is a bit better pic of the bottom...I am pretty sure now the letters are *CAN___* for Canada, but I could not get a good pix of the ink stamp.  I think the number could be either 540, 590...or maybe even 340, 390...as I took some under a really strong light tonite (but not on computor yet) and under a strong light it might be 340....but it may still may be 540...

Anyways, any other ideas...

TIA

Ok here is the best I could do with it.

I put it directly under a bright light, thinking that with the light SO close, it might get through the thick glaze (new techie trick to try) to help accent whatever might be there underneath.  It does look like it says *Canada* on it now.  Could not get anything from the ink stamp, as the bright light make the ink stamp look like it almost disappeared..

The LINK I posted with similar legs, was an Evangeline item......and I do have an Evangeline Mug here in my stuff, so I will post the pic here for a reference to see what you think....but this is in script, but it does help to show Evangeline did *number* their items....but the clay in the ashtray is RED, while the Evangeline Mug the clay looks more whitish.. ???

(( Green Glazed Evangeline Mug posted here FOR REFERENCE ONLY... ))
If ok to do that...

In regards to the original post of the ashtray with the little feet.....I myself am thinking it may be Evangeline Pottery.

Since it appears to say Canada on it - with a number....and the little red clay feet

I say it is Evangeline BECAUSE I just found this oblong ashtray today, and it too is marked with Canada, Evangleline, a number 934 (see pixs posted here)......and appears to have the same type of little red clay feet. Based upon that - I feel the other round ashtray first posted here is a match, based upon the likeness of the feet.  WHAT do you think?

(MOD):  If you feel the same, perhaps we should just move topic to Canada, with header of Evangeline Samples...since this post has  few different comparisons now in order to ID the original post..Please do so.  Thxs
