Collie? Ceramics Port Hope Ontario?
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:49:25 PM »
Speaking of which, would anybody know of a Canadian pottery called either 'Collis' or 'Collie', from the Ontario area?

Nothing like that listed on the Canadian Pottery Identification site here: http://www.canadianpotteryidentifier.com/index.htm :( Rose or Carolyn might know, both being Canadians. (Where is Carolyn BTW, not seen her here for a while.)
Cheers!

Thanks Anne, that's another site to add to my favourites.
The reason I ask is that I have somewhere (though God knows exactly where!!) a pretty little bowl with incised marks on the bottom 'Collis (or Collie) Pottery Ontario Canada. The bowl is beautifully glazed in a rich, glossy blue, a little darker than the usual Anglia Pottery glaze but nowhere as green as BMP. When I find it I'll post it up. I did have my entire collection pictured and filed on my old pc, but one day it did a Richard Hammond and crashed badly, losing everything in its memory. Unlike Hammond, its memory was irretrievable ;D

Hi there chimpMad -

I might be able to help as a Canadian - but even some canadian pottery has me stumped too.  There is a place called Collingwood in Ontario.  I know that Blue Mountain Pottery(BMP), and Pine Pottery were made there.

Scroll down:  http://www.canadianpotteryidentifier.com/op.htm
and see also here:  http://www.glassmenagerie.com/blue_mountain_pottery.html
and another Canadian Art Pottery at Collingwood (showns a label here) Click here
More about BMP at Collingwood:  http://www.antique67.com/articles.php?article=54

There appears to be several Canadian pottery markers that were located in Collingwood...

Hope that helps, as I too stumbled along even as a Canadian here with all the places.  I think Evangeline Pottery was located there too.

(and just found THE POTTERY STUDIO in Collingwood also) scroll to near the bottom of this link:  http://www.freewebs.com/bmpcollector/canadianpottery.htm

Thanks for all that Rose, and I've found the bowl. Here it is, but it's 'bluer' than in the picture. I'd forgotton that it also says 'Port Hope'

Or more possibly Vangelis, I'm sure that was the name.

Hi ChimpMad -- Do you know IF there is a pottery name (maybe Canadian) by the word *V* -- as that might solve another posting I had made on the site:  http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=9861.0

And reply (as i was posting as you posted) I know there is a Port hope in British Columbia (I think) and maybe down east too....and I have a look at the picture after I post this....

I wonder, could say PORT HOPE or even PORT MOODY if all the letters did not show..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Moody
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Hope,_Ontario as sometimes all the letters do not show up...

I'm here. But I'm afraid I know little about Canadian pottery.

I'm sure it's 'Hope', but again I've got no further than finding the place on the map!
I've just looked at the 'VT', not a mark I recognise but a beautifully decorated pot for sure. I love the green bloom-effect.

Carolyn glad you're still around here. :kissy:

Looks like Port Hope to me too but I can't find any Collie (or variant) Ceramics there (yet!)

Cheers!

Maybe try to contact Port Hope Public Library (PHLP) here to see if they know anything about this, or any history on a business by that name.  Just a suggestion.

http://www.phpl.ca/History/Requests.aspx

Question:  Should ChimpMan topic be split?  Just wondering as it might get lost under orange/brown posted title when his is blue and Collie (or Collic) ceramics.

Just want to open it to others viewing or any possible ideas.  Thanks
