Question on old German felt hat w/ unique pins...
« on: September 14, 2009, 09:39:22 PM »
Hi, I recently acquired an old felt German hat with about 28 German travel pins attached to it. Some of these pins are unique in that one is needle point and another is ivory with feathers all pins seem to be quite high quality.

My question is that I would like to find its value to sell and if I went the Ebay route would it be better to sell the pins individually or keep the hat and all pins intact for one purchase price?

Thanks!

Hi there and welcome. :gcheer:
It sounds really interesting, but I'm sure a picture would help (How to add pics. see the How Do I...? box on left hand side).

Hi there, and Welcome also  :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

I would sure be checking out the individual pins first and foremost I think.  Some could be silver, or gold  - vintage or enameled ones and worth a few $$$ on their own.

If you have a pic, would like to see some....even the hat may be vintage...

I went to Ebay, and keyed in HAT PINS ( rather than Travel Pins) and here are some prices: German Hat Pins-EBAY

There is a vintage hat there with 17 pins on it ($ 279.00) -- and even if you note some of the single pins demand some $$$.  I would be checking EACH PIN OUT FIRST.

......and again WELCOME TO THE BOARD my southern neighbor !

Hi Anne E.B. and antiquerose123, thank you for the speedy reply!

OK, I posted a few quick pics, the hat has not been cleaned and the pictures were quick but I believe they may give some insight as to their ?collectiveness?. If you wish to see more pics just let me know I am now free to spend some time on photography and coming up with a plan.

I?m off to ebay to check out the link you guys provided?

Thanks again?

here is a (example) of just a pin on Ebay (10 bids) price of $56.00 for just this one....so I would be checking EACH separate pin out -- that is for sure

Hi, well I decided to sell the hat 'whole' instead of individual pins. Part of the reason is that my wife and I have become partial to the hat and would like to keep it if it does not make its $100.00 reserve. I felt the it would be near impossible to fit all the pins back in and would have some bare spots and pin holes if only a few sold.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement, if you are curious how the hat does on Ebay here is the link:
