Topic: Two Figurines -- China -- and something Else on Bottom ??

Hi I just got these today, and do not know if the people are suppose to be a *certain* person or what.  On the bottom of each it says CHINA, and then what looks like either *Warjzans* or *Wazjzang*.  I have tried to google those words but coming up with nothing -- so not sure what they say.  Also one has the date of 82 on the bottom, and the other has the date of 92.....or at least I am assuming those are the dates ??

Also the bottoms of each have a couple brown colored (Chinese) squiggles on them.

   Does anyone know how these are?  Or the maker? Or anything about them at at?  Should they go back to the Charity shop, or kept.....LOL

The mark reads 'Wanjiang'. I've seen this mark on modern pottery figures before. There is a Wanjiang in Guandong Province so it may be that they originate from there. The style is broadly similar to traditional 'Mudmen' figures, but these are cheaper mass-produced (possibly slip-cast) versions. Both look like they would have originally held fishing rods or similar.

I think it's unlikely that the numbers are dates, they're more likely pattern nos. These figures are very recent and can still be bought today. Not greatly valuable, but quite decorative.
