Hallmarked Silverware - 7 pieces
« on: March 26, 2010, 05:16:49 AM »
Hi - I have these and been trying to figure these ones out too.  Have the 7 pieces of 5 forks and 2 spoons (there might be more to these, but I have not went through another box of silverware here to see).  Right now I know of these 7 pieces.  Marked on the back with six (6) hallmarks.

Not sure of the date, or what the hallmarks all say.  Looks like the first hallmark is for the maker of JR (in script) which might be JOSEPH RIDGE, or JOSEPH RODGERS or JOHN ROUND**.

If I would pick which of these hallmarks look the closest - I would go with JOHN ROUND (1863 - 1857)...

Now as for Style....To me they look like:
~ Rat Tail design or
~ Hanoverian or
~ Fiddle pattern
(???)

I did find on www.925-1000.com something with almost all the same marks (mine had 1 extra mark) and those (I think) were for a JOHN ROUND.

You can see that all of these are fully marked...Can anyone help me with these hallmarks, the style, and just info.  Thanks ever so much.  I have been meaning to get to this stuff, and with my *new photo tip* -- I finally am.

Rat-tail spoons have a raised piece of silver running partially down the back of the 'bowl' I believe,as to the marks I think,if that is a crown,it was assayed in Sheffield, will try and find out the date,

I found this page with the same mark: http://www.silvercollection.it/electroplatesilverQR.html#ROU1 - JOHN ROUND Sheffield
Image here: http://www.silvercollection.it/608ROUNDBIS.jpg - looks like it's Silver Plate not solid silver though, Rose.
Cheers!

Lol....that is OK if not solid silver......but would like to date them.  Also I still have an *extra* mark on mine compared to that image.  That extra mark is a *B* just below the EP mark.  What is that mark there, and what does it stand for?

Is this what they call coin Silver? Or what is that?

Wonder IF they still have some value as to age?  I saved these from going in the TRASH.... :o :o

I'm not sure Rose, I checked my silver marks book and that doesn't say either.
Cheers!
