Bird ??? And the signature???
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:21:35 AM »
Hi, I bought this this weekend for about $15.  The lady wanted $30 for just  it - but I had bought some other things along with this, and make a total offer for everything of $20.  I took a chance on it.  Not sure who the maker is, but it is signed on the bottom - and I am assuming that *name* means something.  This was from the same lady that gave me that nice big Murano Bowl free (on GMB).  So she sold this to me a lot less than she had the price on it.

Anyways -- can anyone help?

There are faint numbers also on it that look like:  70633B   AND is the Signature *who* I think it is ???

It is 8.5 inches tall, and about 6.5 inches wide.  The writing says "#146 at '81"  Is that a number for the product, and the year?

Help....any info on this is greatly appreciated!!

Anyone know the mark on here -- or should i say *marks*.  Whom made this Bird?  And is that Michael Doulton (the name) on it that was signed?  yet, this does not say it is a Doulton piece???

Says on it, all in hand-writing:

To Loretta
Best Wishes
Michael Doulton
#146 at 81

I got this from the same lady (as posted on GMB) that gave me that Free Bowl.  Her name is Loretta, and her Son works at Mirco Soft -- so this might be a special gift he had gotten his Mom....

 :hlp: Can anyone  :hlp:

No idea Rose. I've seen the mark (A and crown) before but i've no idea where it came from.

Is it 'Oct 81' perhaps?

Rose, as it looks like it says Doulton, why not ask Peter Holland over on this site: http://www.figurines-sculpture.com/index.html as he's a mine of helpful information.  Let us know what he says. :) BTW I agree with TC, the last line looks like Oct '81.
Cheers!

  Hi,

About six years ago Michael Doulton did a signing 'gig' at our local Debenhams store in Croydon. I bought a couple of Doulton pieces for my Granddaughter and had them signed as a future investment for her, I have asked my daughter to get them out of storage so I may photograph them and post here for comparison.

           Warmest Wishes,

              John

Yes, I am sure a Doulton came here as well. Several years ago now, so it is quite possible that he does this "book tour" type thing regularly.

I am just thinking out loud here -- but he did do signing as per the net, but I do not think this is a Royal Doulton piece.  So it it not possible that someone who wanted his signature just took another piece to get his signature on....

^-^ I mean Rock stars sign T-shirts, guitars, albums, dollar bills.....anything a person brings.

so that was just me thinking out loud....as I do not know the ceramic piece either.  That is why I also posted on that other site that was suggested to me...

  Hi Rose,

The signing I went to was VERY strictly controlled, you had to buy a piece from a special counter set up instore and put your name down on a list before you could even get near Michael!! the store staff kept the item you bought until it was time to be signed, then you were called into a cordoned off area and your piece was given to Michael for signing, he was very friendly and asked us about our Grandaughter.

                     Warmest Wishes,

                       John
