Beaded Powder Box ?
« on: February 09, 2011, 03:56:41 AM »
Hi - I got this a long time ago, and only getting to it now.  It kinda looks like a powder (round) box, and it has a beaded top on it.  I know those old vintage beaded purse are worth a few $$$$ so I wonder if this might be worthy...

About4.5 inches wide, and 3 inches tall.  No mark that I can find...   ;D  In very good condition, and very pretty.

Maybe it is a *Dresser Box* or a *Trinket box* ??  It looks like the rest of it is made out of Satin on the outside, and the inside.  Any ideas ??

Thxs  :kissy:

Ohhh that *is* nice Rose. I've not seen a beaded box before... bags yes, box no. Need to go google and see what we can turn up about them.
Cheers!

I think they are referred to as bugle beads.  I'm presuming the beads are glass and not some kind of metal foil?  Its very pretty

It reminds me a little of this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Marks-and-Spencer-Beautiful-beaded-jewellery-box-/220735143505?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_JewelleryBoxes_Supplies_CA&hash=item3364d6fe51
This one might have been made in the Far East - may be India.

Whoops - l-o-n-g link  :o

The box is covered with Satin.....so I really do not know what is under it.  I think it is pretty.

 Something a little different...  :abduct:

Satin boxes were around in the 1980s & 1990s so I'd guess yours could well be that era, Rose. I have green satin covered one (without beads) which I keep hair ties in from the same sort of date.
Cheers!

They are lovely Rose.  Can you imagine how long it must take to sew the beads on individually?  :thd:  It takes me all my time to thread a needle and sew a button on :hlp: :censored:

Thanks Anne EB -- yeah, and it looks like it was hand done, as not every bead is exactly the same (some smaller ones) and some tiny flaws only when you look close.

I hate trying to thread ONE needle..  :censored:  :24:
