Green dragon pattern
« on: October 07, 2007, 12:47:35 AM »
This isn't my pottery, it's another of Barry's pics from the book. This is green dragon china, used in a local inn called the Green Dragon. I don't know for sure if there's a backstamp on it - I can't recall there being one, but it's some time since I saw the pieces shown.

Does anyone recognise it as a production pattern from anywhere?
Cheers!

It has a look of Staffordshire creamware transfer ware - a bit like Stourbridge for glass, there were a lot of small factories and decorators all making very similar wares.  The shapes of the sugar and teapot echo Silver patterns mid 19th century, or a bit earlier - the little feet are just like those pincer formed ones you find on cranberry glass aren't they?

It always amazes me how you find the same tableware shapes and designs through all media - glass, ceramic and silver in the 19th century in particular.

Thanks Lynne, yes they are. It's an amazing set, and that so much has survived after being used for years in an inn is a wonder too.  I love it, shame it's not mine! :boohoo: ....
Cheers!
