Bitossi duck bowl
« on: August 11, 2008, 04:58:05 PM »
A chance visit to the charity shop enroute to the post office, resulted in this large Bitossi duck shape bowl.  Its really old and has got some damage.  Its bill has been glued back on at some stage and there's a chip on his head, plus a hairline on its tail.  I've never seen one of these before so I'm really pleased to have it and will attempt to do a little restoration work.

The rose motif on the base is interesting and I've not been able to find out anything about this.  I'm guessing that its an Aldo Londi design and that it dates way back.   Unfortunately the Bitossi website just shows their new reproduced pieces http://www.gruppocolorobbia.com/flaviasrl/it/index.html  The original Rimini Blu (which I'm sure the duck is) seems to have been made from 1957-65.

Does the rose motif mean anything to anyone ?  or the impressed number 2263 on the base?  Any Bitossi experts out there please ? ;)

The duck is now going to join my Bitossi penguin aka "Feathers McGraw" and cat.  Quite a menagerie ;D  I've got my eye on one of the horses with riders - another one for my X-mas list.

I've got several pieces of Bitossi and a gallery of 40 saved pics of rare colours & colourways and I ain't seen nothin like your duck Anne.
I would say that its certainly not a recently produced piece. Those are marked "Bitossi".

Great website.   Many thanks Rose ;) :cheerleader:
I love the lidded duck candy dish.  I don't think mine would originally have had a lid, as the rim is quite thin, so may be it was designed as some sort of open candy dish.
I love their Rimini Blu and have a few assorted pieces.  When I get time, I'll take a pic. of them all.
