Pr. Victorian vases - Royal Doulton ????
« on: January 17, 2008, 05:24:03 PM »
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/001-7.jpg

Made the most of a break in the weather and went on a hunt.  Bagged this pair of OLD vases which I'm certain are Victorian.   Lots of crazing on the inside.   I haven't done any research yet on them, and they're not my usual cuppa, but for 50p each ....  :o  :thd:  They're 6.5" high.  They look kind of Royal Doultonish ???  but then all vases like this look R.D'ish to me ;D

I can't make out the impressed markings on the base and I'm not even sure that I've taken a picture of them the right way up, so the 988 might be an 886 etc.  Here it is   http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/002-6.jpg.

What does anyone think please :)

I also nabbed a ceramic tile with a Dutch scene, but will post that separately - somewhere...

TIA  ;)

Thanks Sue, that's a great help.  I couldn't make it out.  It gives me something to go on now and I'll do a search to see what comes up.

They look like a Westerwald ish type of piece, the mark is not D?mler & Breiden if thats what you were thinking TC but i will have to research the mark a bit....Kev

I was thinking the number looks German and I'm sure a manufacturer in Germany used the anchor mark to make it look like it was from Chelsea? I don't know where I got that from.  :czy:

I've googled anchor marks for British pottery and I haven't been able to match it up with anything.  Currently looking in all my books for similar colouration/style, but zilch as yet.  Haven't checked German yet.  On closer inspection the number 9 may be a 2.
