« on: March 10, 2009, 04:29:08 PM »
Just bought this (hope its leaper) off E bay & paid 42quid. Does that sound a reasonable price as Ive never bought one of these pieces before.

Not my cup of tea I'll admit, but what else could you buy for ?42 that will last a lifetime and give you pleasure every time you look at it (answers on a postcard please    :bad:)?

I'd probably see it in a different light if was a chimp!
A lot of art / studio pottery is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, no middle ground, and taste is such a personal thing. I once happened across one of my daughters' Christmas shopping lists, and writ large were the words 'Dad, bit of ugly pottery'  :o  I got a beautiful Bay Keramik vase  ;D

Yes, I know what you mean regarding taste

and on the subjects of chimps my 6 year old daughter has become absolutely besotted with monkeys. She can't stop talking about them and we presently have a house full of toy monkeys and we have to watch every monkey programme (although I did quite like the orangotang (is that how you spell it) orphanage one the other night). Ive promised her that this summer we will go down to monkey world (Dorset?).

Hopefully this will cure her  :hlp: - just teasing

Best Wishes
Mark

That's certainly an interest I'd nurture in her, though whether she'll be quite so besotted after getting up-close and personal to an adult chimp in a strop is another matter! Monkey World is brilliant, I'd move in tomorrow given half a chance  ;D
And to drag us back to studio pottery, here's my chimp mug.

The agreed scientific name is Orang Utang, from an old Bornean name which I couldn't even pretend to know, but which means 'Old man from the forest'.
D'you know, I hate semantics. Until it involves apes :rn:

Sadly it's never been used. Being handthrown it's quite rough inside so difficult to clean properly, and I don't want to ruin it with coffee stains.
