Somewhat confused tho in that the item shown here
http://www.cornishceramics.com/plooe.htm has quite different marks including "Looe".
I wondered if 2 potteries there and further digging gives also Barbican Pottery, Looe for the Webbs. So maybe 2 or maybe different ownership at different times. As my mark was published in 1955, it would be the latter period (closure in 1962) if so and would appear to be for K.G.F Webb. What a lot of initials ! I wonder what relation M. Webb was.
Further googling around Webb + the initials + Barbican + Looe has not brought forth any further info except that Barbican is the name of several streets and indeed a whole area of East Looe. I wonder if a Barbican fortresss still exists there.
I did look at various Cornish pottery sites some years ago as I do like some Cornish Pottery anyway and I'm pretty sure that The Digital Museum was one of them though I think it has changed and grown a lot since then. I gave up on my few ceramics for a long time.
If the mark had been labelled KW I would have found it way back then !!! So you are so clever in finding it Sue. I assume you must have looked all through all the marks there as neither Looe nor KW appear on the drop down lists of potteries and initials ? I think that had I done the same I would still have missed it !
I had convinced myself that it was Scandi because of the clay colour but I now note that Tintagel uses Red Clay too and maybe other Cornish potteries too ? - so much to learn !! What was it that made you think that the piece is Cornish in the first place Sue ??
