I was a bit of a gardener once and loved growing flowers. My mom told me of the special vases her mother used for flowers where the heads were heavier than the stems - which led me to collecting some flat shaped vases with big lips, which I have always called my flying saucers... but what's the correct term for these types of vase? I've seen them called Pansy vases, Posy vases and in the States where I have moved to, "Top Hat vases."
The best thing about these is that those who created these vases made sure the color of the glazes provided a brilliant backdrop for showing off bright orange nasturtiums and the white/mauve pansy flowers. Here's a Bretby navy blue one, a Poole Pottery turquoise one and a Burleigh blue.
