Unusual majolica eagle vase
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:46:47 AM »
Like me, it's wierd! My instincts are telling me this is not old majolica, maybe 1960's and onwards...

Has anyone seen one of these before and where might it originate from?

Never seen anything like it TC. No marks anywhere I take it? It's an unusual piece for sure. ;)
Cheers!

Yeah, it's kind of ugly too, that's not like me at all.  ;)

No marks on it.

Closer inspection suggests that it might be older than recent...

...It has crazing, but here and there and very fine.

...it's very dusty on the inside.

Isn't the double-headed eagle German?

Where've you been lately, you've been missed?

German, Imperial Russian and some other Slavic states I think? Also a masonic symbol apparently: http://www.masonicdictionary.com/doubleeagle.html

Hiding.  ;)

Nah, i've been on another forum, an Asperger's forum. I been popping in and out though.

I found a Russian jug with a two-headed eagle but it's very much different in shape and  decoration.
