Mix(master)up----Bakelite
« on: June 15, 2008, 01:14:28 PM »
Hi, I got this for a few dollars (7), and it says the date 1956 on the bottom.  It is Sunbeam, and do you think the handle, the speed turner, and the complete bottom base are Bake lite....as it appears to me.....as that is one (great) amount of Bakelite....

Also got this beautiful Chrome percolator (General Electric).  I did find a match (exact) on the net, and it too said the legs, handle, and side lower panel were Bakelite for this.  Rather a Bakelite day here......

AND BOTH STILL WORK..... :o :o

Well, a year ago you asked about this!  Here is a patent for one of the styles and it says "plastic material such as synthetic resins, one example which is bakelite" so it's possible it is bakelite.  http://www.google.com/patents?id=aO5fAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA1&dq=chicago+flexible+shaft,+bakelite&rview=1&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=0_1#PPA2,M1

The coffee pot is probably made with the same materials and could be bakelite, there was also catalin amoung other synthetic resins.

I just LOVEEEEEE the look of these old chrome coffee pots.  So sleek.

I sold this one, and have the another lady also wanting one from me, since I still have two or three of these *tucked* away.  They look so stylish on the counter....ahhh, the good old days.

Good news is ....... I did sell it for a good price, but the lady IS going to use it in her home.  I am glad it went to a good home, where it will be LOVED too.

I still have the mix master.............and it works great.  Just shows how much better things were made back then !!!!

Thanks so much --- GREAT INFO !!  ;)
