Unusual jug with mask??
« on: September 19, 2009, 07:58:48 PM »
Got this from a local seconds shop today thought it looked interesting and quirky if a little strange it appears to be a jug with a face near the spout which resembles the green man!! Its around 7" tall and a bit unstable also the metal handle seems a little bit of a second thought?? It struck me as ancient looking but not sure repro is all the rage these days anyone know anything about it atall thanks for looking :cheerleader:

Wow - is that neat...

I was wondering IF there might be any marks on the metal anywhere.  We sometimes get so use to just looking at the bottom of the pottery - we forget to check other areas...in your case the metal.  Let us know....

Again NEAT !!

Bunratty is a place in Ireland, Rose. :) No idea what you'd use a bellamine jug for though!
Cheers!

Ohhh don't mind if I do Leni... I'll get the glasses out! :)

Reading TC's link it says, "They are called Bellamine's as the face is of Cardinal Bellarmine (1542-1621), who was famous for putting Galileo in prison." - So now we know! 8)
Cheers!
