Mugs
« on: January 12, 2010, 11:07:06 AM »
Hi there, thought I would post these.  I do have single pixs of them, but thought I would first just post this pic, and the info I got from them.

(From left to Right)

Mug A:  States "BIRKS" on bottom, and the also "21 Made in England 32" . Has see through bottom on it.  About 5 inch tall, and I think maybe silver, or silver plated.  It is old as the date given to a Professor (Leon Katz) of the U of S (here) on the front states "The Class of '57"

Mug B:  Plain mug, with a small b, and capital W like this "b&W" but the *&* sign is over the *b* and the writing is in Script.  Says on the bottom "ENGLISH PEWTER" and "MADE IN ENGLAND."  About 4.5 inches tall.  Has a see-through bottom, and there is a store label on it that says " YORK JEWELLERS."

MUG C:  Says this on the bottom in small, small writing with all these words forming the shape of a W. ...."Sheffield English Pewter England" , as the word Sheffield is a the downward stroke of a W shape, the word English is the upward stroke of the W shape, the word Pewter, is the next downward stroke of the W shape, and then the word England is the last upward stroke of the W shape.  The words "MADE IN" are between the strokes of shape of the W.  About 6.5 inches tall.

MUG D:  Of course, easier to tell pewter...with some letters on the bottom.  What gets me as they if you hold it one way, then some of the letters are backwards, and if you hold it the other way, then the same happens.....there is a Z on one side of the bottom, then in the Middle -- it looks like (?)  MCDA (but the A does not seem to have a line through it -- so it looks more like a upside-down V.  Or all the letters could be :  XCDA ( but the A looks like a V upside down......and if I look the opposite way, then it looks V, back wards D, backwards C... then either a X, or a Y at the end....

I will post the bottoms later -- just did not have time tonight -- as once again, it is the WEE hours

MORE Mug A:  Pixs

What do the number *21* and *32* stand for here?  Does anyone know?  We know made for Birks....and the imprint on the side given as a gift says Class of '57.
