I'm looking for the value of these boxes for charity please...

They seem to be Bakelite.

What size are they TC?  If Bakelite, it might be worth a scan through here: http://bakelitecollector.com/ and there's some similar styles here too:

It's about 3 inches diameter and the other one is just over 3 inches.

Trinket box size then, rather than, say cigar/cigarette box size.
Cheers!

In my copy of Miller's Collectables, there are some lidded 1920's, 1930's pots around the same size as yours, but mottled, and not nearly as nice looking as yours, which are much nicer because of the unusual knop.  They are valued at ?10-?15 each, but my copy is dated 2005, and things might have changed over time.

Ah thanks Anne, they've probably doubled in price by now. Around ?20-30 maybe.

They are very stylish.  The ones shown in Millers look drab and plain.  Yours look more suited to a lady's boudoir and I would imagine, more collectable.

I wouldn't mind betting you're right about value.  Will see if I can find any similar ones on the web.  I've got a couple of Art Deco websites in my favourites, and will have a look to see what similar ones go for.

No success, I'm afraid!  My saved websites for Art Deco items are mostly for glass.  Haven't seen anything like TC's boxes having searched several times.  Nothing like in any of my books either.

Hope you get a good price TC for the Charity. :x-fingers:

TC - I've found three identical boxes to yours!!!   They are in Miller's Collectables Price Guide 1998-99 edition, page 278 in their Colour Review - Plastics.
Described as "Three Bakelite boxes, 1930's, larges 4in (10cm) diam. Large ?50-55. Small ?40-45.  Unfortunately there's no information as to maker etc.

I'll see if I can do a scan and add a pic. tomorrow to show you.

They must have increased in value in that time.
Hope you've still got them.  ;)

Hi thanks, eventually they will go on sale for approx ?20 and ?30 each in the shop. I might add that the lid on one of them is a bit stiff so a reduction in price for that one.
