Big Glasses - Advertising
« on: June 24, 2008, 02:15:54 AM »
Hi, I have a really big pair of glasses that are for display for GIORGIO ARMANI.  I set a pop can beside them for the size.  I was wondering the following values due to:

1)  Advertising, as a display product
2)  Name on them of Giorgio Armani, a designer
3)  The size of them (see last photo)
4)  Looks like tortoise shell, or something like glasses were made from at one time
5)  Uniqueness

And I can NOT find anything similar on the Web to them.  Any ideas, or what they could be worth?  I thought advertising memorabilia was very collectible?

Hi anne will check it out, but since these are advertising glasses, and so big -- I do not know where to look.

Do you think they are tortoise shell?  Kinda looks like it to me..... ???

Armani eyewear was first introduced in 1988, so that means your big glasses are less than 20 years old, Rose. I'd guess they'd have a collectable value though, simply because they have the name on. Wouldn't like to make a guess as to what value though. Great fun piece though, a real talking point.
Cheers!

Yeah real different...

I thought I would grab them at a garage sale due to the name on them, and I read that advertising stuff can be highly collectible....and can't say I ever saw something like this.

Yeah real different.... :pbag:

They won't be real tortoiseshell, just plastic, but they would probably have some collector appeal

I am completely unimpressed by designer names, and shocked at their prices,

but I can see these being part of a funky display in a pub. :jstr:

I once had a pair of 1980s Armani sunglasses which I kept in the glovebox of my 1976 mk III Ford Cortina 2.0GXL. I sold the car in 1990, when it was considered nothing more than an old shed,  for ?600, and left the glasses in the car. Nowadays the glasses are worth around ?200 and the car near on ?5000.
The moral of this story is, throw nothing away. You never know!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure if I said the measurements of these advertising  8).  They are:

~ Height:                    8.50  inches tall
~ Length:                 22.00  inches Long
~ Side leg length:    10.50   inches

Not sure IF the photo justifies the SIZE of them.  That is one BIG PAIR of ADVERTISING GLASSES.  Gotta have some $$$...

 :clap2:

Rats - and I do not suppose anyone is a member with that link ------ Grrrrr is right!!   Would like to know what they are asking.....

BUT HEY - IF YOU CLICK ON THE RIGHT SIDE, YOU CAN SEE SOME UPCOMING PIXS FOR SALES, WHERE IT SAYSUpcoming Lots for Sale Now: 123,201

Thanks for the link - just hope someone is a member to it.... as it might be a good resource (see: http://www.invaluable.com/artfact/about.cfm ) for anything like even painting.  I do not have paypal, or credit cards...just Canadian hard, cold cash.  And very little of it --

:gh:........and on that topic, could we as member support something like those types of sites.  (Eg. - if you collected/or members made a donations to the board to be able to use those types of sites for research? Of course, only one person would have access for this at their fingertips).  If I can send something $10 as a donation to the board (to you) is this possible Ann?  Or if any other members wanted to do so?

Hmmmmm - I note there is a FREE TRIAL at the top to try. I wonder if I should be brave or not....or someone for me  ;D

Added/Modified:
I also googled again, and I found these (not glasses) but a large eye-glass case (18 inches) Click HERE and they are asking $75.00 for them.  When I BOUGHT my large display glasses, I paid only $5.00 for them....so a return (? if I sold) might be worth while...

~ And found these, different but still advertsing for Giorgio Armani ($195.00) Click Here Also .  Says (maybe) lucite case, so might mine be lucite too?

Lucite is a kind of acrylic/hard plastic so they could be Rose. (I have some lucite beads hiding in a box somewhere in the house!)

Just found that Lucite is a registered trademark for this type of material: http://www.lucite.com/
Cheers!

Update:

I was just looking around and I found these Giorgio Armani over-sized Glasses (but wire) and they  are listed (BIN) at $600.00.....so they are different, but I imagine the year made and the fact that they too are an advertising premium.....might give a ball park idea for Price ???  maybe, not sure.....but would be a collectible item I guess

??? found these ones too, and they are not as big as mine and BIN is asking for $350
