This is a very tricky one. First of all from the style of the piece I'd say Japanese rather than Chinese. One element of the mark is 峰. I don't know the Japanese pronunciation (though it's possibly 'ho') or precise meaning, but in Chinese this would mean 'peak'. However, I don't know if the mark consists of several characters or just one large one. The upper strokes don't entirely make sense to me, they appear somewhat stylised. If separate characters then maybe the mark reads '穴峰'? This would translate as something like 'cave mountain'. Maybe Keith can add more or comment on the Japanese pronunciation of these kanji... ;)

Interesting site will have a look at that later,in regards to Stevens post I'm having trouble sorting out the characters, starting with the highlighted one in the pic' below this can be 'yama' meaning mountain, peak, heap ,pile, climax and a few others it is also common at the end of names and is pronounced 'zan' like Taizan or Meizan, famous potters. The other characters Steven mentioned are 'ana' meaning hole or cave but can also be 'ketsu' which can mean, hole, slit, gap, blank, bum! :thd: or even 'dark horse' to name a few,why did I ever start learning Japanese? not a common language in the West Midlands, not given up yet though :czy: :czy:
