Stoat figurine pottery ID help please
« on: May 10, 2016, 06:37:47 AM »
I have had this ceramic, presuming pottery, stoat in my collection for years, but never seen another one and would like to find out who made it, if possible, if not, possible country of origin and rough age.

It is approximately 5¾" maximum length and 3¼" maximum width and the maximum height is 4 1/8"

On the base is Stoat Musteta erminea

Thank you for any help in advance

I've not seen one like it either! It's interesting that the species name on the bottom is incorrectly spelled - the stoat is Mustela erminea (not Musteta as stamped). The colours reminds me of the pottery models my grannie used to have when I was a little girl, but I can't remember if they were marked or not!
Cheers!

I noticed also that it is misspelled, googling that exact spelling did show a couple of very old ebay auctions, but the auctions were not accessible when you clicked on them, so I could not see if they were exactly the same as my one.

From the details that were available via the google search, one seller said German and 1960's, that might account for the misspelling.

Certainly an interesting and detailed piece nevertheless, would have been nice to ID the piece, but I think this will be another mystery :-)
