Does anyone know how to tell the difference between Victorian and repro barley twist candlesticks please?

Ohhhh now there's a question TC. On wooden once probably  but metal ones are a different matter. What do they look like underneath? Are there any marks on them at all?

I've always wondered about that white powder that's found on most brass items...  :-\

They weigh just under one and a half pounds each and they are 12 inches high.

Sounds like it. I thought for a moment it was the remains of polish but why would anyone polish under there.
