Granny's Basement- Plichta?
« on: December 16, 2007, 10:33:20 PM »
My grandmother's basement is a minefield of kitch and thriftstore glassware. Not much to see....

But I did find these down there, and besides the fact that they're marked 'Plichta, London, England,' I can't make heads nor tales of them. There seems to be very little information on line, and I haven't been able to match them with any other images of Plichta ceramics. I've also got a Plichta pig, which seems to be fairly common, and a duplicate of the koala set, only in brown and as a coin bank, but unmarked.

If anyone knows the age/value of these critters, that information would be very much appreciated!

There was someone asking about Plichta earlier on the board but we don't know much of them yet. This was the earlier topic: http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=324.0 - I'd love to know more about Plichta.
Cheers!

Plichta was an importer and wholesaler rather than a producer - he had a large catalogue made especially for him by the Wemyss pottery after it moved to Bovey Tracey from Fife.  All his items are post WWII.  Pigs are very popular, but I have had rabbits, deer, koala bears like Yolaron's, cats (very sought after) and other animals. I particularly like the miniatures.

Value:  as always, I am loath to give values, it depends on where you buy or sell. eBay will give an idea of the price that online collectors will be expecting to buy for, people who don't like using computers to buy will often pay more as they do not have the world at their fingertips to source from.

Another thing to look at if you like the look of Wemyss but not the price, is the modern Wemyss pottery produced by the Griselda Hill Pottery. these are not fakes, but modern production, they bought the Wemyss Ware trademark in 1980.

I recently inherited a Plichta Cat.  She is white with blue polka dots and green glass eyes.  The makers mark is "Plichta, London, England.

I have found many Plichta animals on the Net, but not one polka dotted cat.  Some of the prices for Plichta animals are unreal.  For example a $64K Plichta pig.

I am starting to wonder if I might have an important piece on my hands.  I am looking for opinions on my cat.  Please call or write and I would love to hear peoples opinions.  My camera is on the fritz.  I will do my best to get some pictures loaded ASAP.
I look forward to hearing from anyone!

Thanks, Cathy   :new:

Sorry Cathy, I'm confusing you. It's your other topic - I just cross-referenced it for other members too. :)
Cheers!
