Topic: large bottle vase ID

Hi all,


Any thoughts on the maker of this would be great....

It's 35cm tall, earthenware with a colourful copper lustre and fumed finish (?) The base has a painted 'MF' and an exhibition label '28' it's also been covered in a resin by someone I think to protect delicate surfaces from getting scratched, but I'm sure that was not done by the potter (as it was a mess). I've started to carefully remove it and in places around the foot rim the real colour of the clay can be seen rather than the strange plasticy yellow in the middle.

It's relatively light weight and I think a nicely potted piece. My feeling is that it is more likely from mainland Europe - maybe Italy or France - than British, and datewise anything from around 1970 to today, but could really do with some help tying it down any further.

Clueless sorry but I love it.
Baffled about the resin - never heard of such a thing.
I wouldn't like to ascribe a nationality to it given the free flow of ideas across borders.
Or do the continentals have certain glazes or clay types our studio potters don't use ?
I might know someone who can help.

The reason I think it's from mainland Europe is the type and colour of the clay is'nt something I'd usually associate with British studio ceramics nor the mark or form, it's a very long way from definative but areas (sometimes even within the same country) do have particular materials and stylistic idiosyncracies that sometimes leave a trace or taste. But your right those distinctions become more and more blurred and it could have been made anywhere.

I do see pieces occasionally with glue or resin on the foot instead of the more common felt pad but they really went to town on this one!!!
