This bud vase is true class the colours are infinately more subtle and deep than the piccy shows,i must buy a better camera!

Yes ,it could.
The first letter has a lump of glaze over it but Breaking News. The marks above the lettering depict a leaf and a bird on a perch,possibly swift,or house martin,that sort of wing and tail shape when perched . Stoke Potteries come to mind for some reason?

The first word is definitely Shorter, so your initial guess is the right one.
