Here's an oddity and I'm hoping Austrian pottery experts out there may help me find the maker of this strange mixture of influences. I have a shiny blue and grey glazed earthenware vase I bought in the Midlands some time ago , with Egyptian motif handles and a raised relief around the vase of the Bayeaux tapestry(?) or perhaps Anglo Saxon soldiers.
I originally posted an enquiry on the British pottery section of this amazing website, as I thought because the mark with a lion rampant with a crown would be English, but replies from the posting suggest it was of Austrian origin with an importers mark perhaps. Can anyone recognize the vase or an explanation of the odd mixture of different themes?
