Nice little stoneware vase marked IP. - I think. Almost 4.75 inches tall. Anyone have any idea who the mark is please.

I think it should be HP rather than MP or IP. The crossbar hasn't come out clearly.

That makes it Helen Pincombe, and dates this to somewhere between 1950 and 1978. She has a distinctive monogram with the dot to the right.

Thank you both, but I'm not convinced by either. The letters are cameo and an angular font - I'm fairly sure there's nothing missing. The Mount Pleasant clay is different as well.

Gareth can you direct me to somewhere showing Helen's mark please?

I saw one a few days ago on a website somewhere Christine and it was in an oblong not an oval like yours and it didn't look the same - let me see if I can find it again.
Cheers!

Hmm, you might be right I think Helen Pincombe's mark is in a rectangle rather than an oval.

The only pic I can find is here http://www.ruffordceramiccentre.org.uk/ceramic/collection/view.asp?mode=all&id=35, but it's not that clear.

Her mark is an H and P, with the upright on the P being the right-hand upright of the H, and a dot to the right. It looks exactly like this one if there was a crossbar for the H (apart from the oval  8:))

Thanks Martyn. His clay looks to be reddish though and I'm sure it's IP not MP

It was just a guess, but he works in reduced stoneware so the colour of the clay will be much the same as on yours and the brushwork is similar.

I'm also pretty sure from you photo that a bit of the mark has'nt come out, which is common with impressed seals as they can get clogged with clay from the previous pot. There is definately a different surface to the mark from the top of the 'I' to the middle of the 'P'?

Anyway I can say for certain it's not by Pincombe (although that is'nt a huge help I'm affraid)
