Sleeping Child, by Jean Harper
« on: July 11, 2008, 09:08:14 PM »
This is a signed print by water colour artist, Jean Harper, R.W.S., entitled "Sleeping Child". The picture shows an older lady, presumably grandma, holding a book and seated beside the bed of a child who has clearly fallen asleep after her story.

This print is one of my favourite Jean Harper pictures. Jean is a watercolour artist who specialises in pictures of children and their families. Her pen and wash style is unmistakable, and the characters she portrays are wonderfully painted: I feel I know both the people in this picture!

Some biographical info about Jean Harper: Jean was born in 1921 in Demerara, West Indies, and attended the Royal College of Art and the British School in Rome. In 1966 she became a Fellow of the Royal Watercolour Society, and is an Honorary Retired Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Jean has also illustrated a number of books. Jean now lives in north London and her prints are very collectable.
