God vase
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:30:53 AM »
I'm not sure what the pattern is but it may be the god of wind or something?

It has "made..." in a circular stamp, probably "Made in Japan", so would probably date it after 1890.

If anyone can tell me a bit more about this vase i would be very happy. I would love to know if it's a quality item or not.  :)

Looks like early 20th century Satsuma,do you think there is a similarity to the pic' I've posted? if so she is a Buddhist priestess, can't remember her name but I don't think she's actually Japanese(Korean/China possibly). There are lots of  colour variations in these forms of Satsuma,Keith.

This is the closest mark I can find that looks like yours, potters were not known for their writing skills so this is not guaranteed to be right;it looks like the mark for Seizan,1868-1912,although the pieces I've seen are not very similar in regards to yours but it may be a later piece, excuse hand drawn pic' of Kanji,Keith.

Yes that's the same figure, although i think the face on my vase must have faded away over time.

I think you are spot on with the mark too, although the writing on mine is a little bit cramped it's likely to be the same mark.

I found this, it's the same colour too...
