R J Leakey, any info?
« on: February 21, 2009, 04:01:26 PM »
Here's another mystery of mine. This pot is by R J  Leakey of Newick, but I can find nothing else about this potter. The only R Leakey I know of is Richard, the reknowned anthropologist, but his middle name isn't a 'J'. The pot is about 6" high and is glazed in and out with a deep olive green, and overlaid outside with a duck-egg blue. It's a really nice piece and I'd love to find out more. I'll add these pics to the Studio Pottery Marks page.

There's a piece featured here in this auction, but for a R.J. Leawey, Newick.  So may be a google with Leawey and not Leakey might bring something up.  I think Newick is Lewes area????

I saw that one too Anne - I think the stamp is a bit splodgy but Leakey sounds more likely than Leawey I think?  Newick is near Lewes in Suffolk yep. Again I can't trace a potter there.... yet! ;)
Cheers!
