Can someone help identify Hungarian pottery piece please.
« on: August 21, 2009, 10:57:15 AM »
Does anyone know Hungarian pottery? I have a piece I can't identify. It has a signature mark but the only word I can read is Hungary.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the board. I'm wondering if your girl is by J?zsef M?sz?ros, it looks very like his piece shown here:
http://www.magyarkeramia.hu/keramia/meszaros/page_en.html and the stamp on yours looks like it starts with ME..... and ends with ...OS.

I'd suggest dropping F?bi?n S?ndor (whose site that is) an email http://www.magyarkeramia.hu/kapcs_eng.htm and ask what he thinks. Do please let us know the outcome.
Cheers!

I am part Hungarian here, but can't speak or write a thing.  To me looks like it also starts with a ME, but ends with OSR.  I have some Hungarian pieces here, but nothing with that mark on it.

Please do keep us updated!!  ;)

I did not hear back from Fabian Sander. I wrote and send photos and didn't get a response.

Isn't she adorable? She is 6" tall, in her sitting position. She is 5 1/2" long at her longest, measuring the base.

I found her at an estate sale where things dated back to the 1800s so that doesn't even provide any clue as to her age. I don't know anything at all about her.

Found this HUNGARIAN ceramic link:  http://www.magyarkeramia.hu/keramia/ker_eng.htm

Maybe snoop around there to see if anything, or perhaps you can send them an e-mail to see if they know who it might be  ;)  Do let us know....

Thank you.

I just spent some time clicking on each link and the closest I can come up with similar to mine is Kov?cs Margit but I'm just not certain. They don't show a signature mark.

Still no word back from the email I sent.

I just went back to the site. They have two email addresses listed. I just now sent the photos and my query to the second address. I'll let you know if they respond.

Thanks for the help.

Still no word from the people I sent my query to. I suspect, after all this time, they won't be answering.
