Brass fish,for what???

4 inches long,cast and heavy for it's size but what was it used for I haven't a clue,help please,Keith.

I wonder if it could be an ashtray? I had a similar fish type ceramic ashtray dating back to the 50s and it just reminded me of it. Any signs that its been used as one?

Thanks Anne,did consider that but it's got none of those nasty stub marks like on the fly strikers I have,this has 'heat' marks,that bluish tinge like it has been near an open fire,really must stop buying this weird stuff,ta,Keith.

My guess....and ashtray, or a door stop....or something by a fireplace to hold something (
