Well, the only thing i can think of is that the VD and CD are someone's initials, either a married couple or from the same family since both initials end in a 'D'. If it had been for alcohol the initials might have been VR or GR for the reigning monarchs (Victoria Regina and Georgeus Rex). But this is a teapot so probably the initials of the owners or manufacturers.

Well, that's my guess anyway, could be completely wrong. I haven't the foggiest idea what the other letters are for mind.  :-\

VD...  :o >:D :thd:..............lol  :24:

just kidding...

Maybe Zas Sar is the Name?  As I found a person on Facebook with that name (???) or......maybe ZAS means *Berlin* and SAR means Saudi Reyal?

I too would think the letters of VD and CD are names of whom this might have been given to and the other letters from where they are from (maybe)...just a guess....

have to dig around a bit more on this.... ;)

Thanks Rose, wondered if it belonged to a wartime canteen 'WRAF' etc... and they may relate to some 'military' catering organisation, will look further,p.s. just found out I'm part Canadian! how about that?

I doubt it'd be WRAF as pretty much everything carried the War Dept mark or some such thing I think.... my Mother ran a NAAFI canteen before joining the WRAF and she said everything was marked, even their knickers!  :24:

I remember seeing smaller version of these in railway hotels way back when... with the initials of the railway companies on them.... so perhaps an area worth exploring?
Cheers!

EH?   ;D and I have European roots..... :24:

I still think that it *might* be the person names too -- and that we never find out?  Are there any *other* marks on the bottom at all?  a maker name there?  If so, then these other letters must be someone name.  What about on the inside of the lid -- any marks there at all?

Anne,Rose,
No other marks, looked up various 'military' possibilities nothing,so you were right Anne, looks like it was as you've both suggested someone's name or a small town club, organisation etc...ta for looking,

This is a tough one -- as IF someone name how does a person figure that out.  So then have to figure out the area, and style maybe where made -- or IF those other marks mean anything..
