Silver or sliver plate dressing table set
« on: May 03, 2010, 06:42:56 PM »
I know what your thinking, it's plastic. It definitely isn't plastic though.

Okay, since it is real enamel, does that mean it's solid silver? It would be kind of strange if it wasn't?

I've got to add that the hand painting is a bit amateur, but it does seem to be part of it rather than being added later.

I cannot find any proper silver hallmarks. The marks shown seem to be makers marks only, CSG & Co.

What do you think?

Oh, just noticed there is a copper colour on the back when i removed the bristles. So it's silver plated on copper. Nice though.

That is so pretty TC!  Most of these were made in plated metal I think....  solid silver ones were made but are rarer as they cost a lot more and were mainly owned by folks with loads of money!
Cheers!

. :cussing: :censored: :angry2: :rage:

I had a zillion links posted here for this -- and the POWER went out here....as we are having a slight storm as it is really wind, and raining....Seen no lighting, but our whole area was without power so lost all the info I had here....

Anyways -- I think it is CHARLES S. GREEN (and Co.) as I had found a whole bunch of stuff of both Silver, and Silverplate by him...and his mark.  There is stuff on Ebay (both silver and plated -- but I lost all my links that I had here -- and I had so many (Honest).

Anyhow Google CHARLES S GREEN for both silver and silver-plate...and you will most likely find all the stuff I had found...there was some in Rudylane too.

I had it all here -- but  :censored: power went off.....and lost all my pages (etc) that I was using at the time - I had like 12 windows open....

The backs look like 'guilloche'enamel(think I've got that right) with a 'coating' to protect it that feels like plastic, bit like this, not my hair brush, honest,I don't have enough to brush! :boohoo:

Well done Rose, mystery solved. It is indeed a CHARLES S GREEN & CO silver plated dressing table set.  :sign_gj:

Kieth, yes, it seems to be genuine guilloche enamel. There are a lot of fake plastic ones out there but you can tell this is real because it's hard, cold, and has a little tink when tapped.  :)

I found one very similar on ebay...

I guess it won't brake the bank though.  :sign_oops:

Well done Rose!  :cheerleader:  I could very easily be seduced into collecting these as well, as they are lovely and go so well with my trinket sets.... but I don't the space!!! :taped:

(Repeat to self 100 times: I don't have the space, I don't have the space, I don't have...  :bad:)
Cheers!
