Topic: (Nude) Metal Figure -

Hi, I bought this recently.  I am thinking that it is brass, but not sure if it could be both brass and bronze -- as the bottom part looks darker than the other part.  So i don't know.

He is about 11 inches tall, on a marble base -- and looks like (??) it might have been glue back on to or glued to hold better.  There is also a crack in the bottom base by where a signature is.  I do not mind that it has this, as least he has not lost an arm, or his leg -- he is still all there.

The Signature -- I can not make out....anyone???

I just wanted it, cuz it looked old -- is a statue type of thingy, and something I do not have, and most likely the closest thing I will ever get to a *real* bronze item  I have goggled around -- and I think the proper name for it is:  Discobolus as there is a famous statue of it.

I note on some the head in kinda down, and on some the head is kind of turned back - might has the head turned back.....but I have not been able to find anything like mine -- or even figure out what the Signature says in order to Google more.

Probably no Jackpot here -- but anything that is worth more than I paid for it -- I think I have (always) hit the jackpot anyways..... LOL

Any ideas on it -- or the signature? 

I still like it.  To me, it still looks regal.

Is it a *K* or maybe a *J* with a *K* ??

I can't make out the signature on yours even when I make the pic bigger... can you try highlighting it with the talc and see if that makes it stand out better Rose? (Dust it over and let it fall away from the raised area.)

Same with the bit on the side... it's not focussing well - perhaps your magnifier before the camera might do the trick?

Hi Anne -- will try that, but the body of this is sort in the way for me to get the magnifying glass, and camera in close so I can get a picture.  Just the way he is -- his body is a bit in the way -- but still going to try...

Hi there:  Well I tried the dusting here -- See if this helps.  I (think) the signature looks like....

Looks like the last name starts with a *K* but the way that it is made....Looks like the letter *J* blended into it.  Here are some of the spelling I have tried...as I have tried Google both with an initial *J* and without it........or now that I look at it again.....Maybe it is the letter *C*....C. Kabowe....

I can't figure it out.........

(the LAST pic posted here in this post) Also the letter on the side look like Greek.....as one letter looks like a *backwards 3*, and another just looks like a triangle....but this is the letter on the side....So maybe referring to a *Greek God name* (??)

Anyways -- see if you guys can figure anything out....

The Greek letters on the side are Discobolus in Greek capitals, Rose Found it on Wikipedia written as Δισκοβόλος - but I still can't make out the written signature.

Lol @ Ann.....Must be a true Die Hard hockey Player during -40 below weather....LOL

The 3rd pic above I think is the best...

I am pretty certain of these letters (underlined in Black) -- as in the 3rd pic here, you can clearly see it is a W, and then it looks like an E..

One more Trick up my sleeve that I am going to try.  I am going to rub the area with some water to dampen the area, and then some of the excessive off with my finger -- then run some power over it, hoping that the indented area in the name *might* be a bit more high-lighted IF I add some moisture before to the area with my finger......it might work, it might not.  I may even try to the UV light to see if it helps at all....or try a *pencil rub* over it to see if I can pick anything up more....and I might try it under really bright light, and then under darker light to see if I get *any* extra shadows to help with the letters....

 (...and I just thought of one more idea, I might try here -- but I am not gonna mention it Just yet.....  as this would BE a real Experiment.....LOL )
