German ? stoneware flask
« on: October 11, 2010, 07:42:37 PM »
Hello all
I am hoping that someone with a good knowledge of stoneware could help me place this flask. It is made in a mould [ seams ] and the clay is a dark chocolate. I therefore don't think it is from the westerwald area and it may be that it is not even german !! The only mark is an incised v on the base. It has a relief moulded mediaeval type town and it is salt glazed I'm thinking. Anybody recognize the clay colour, and any idea when it would date from ?
Best wishes
Gemma

Hi there -- is it me, or do I see what looks like a little number inside the *V*.  Kinda looks like a 9 or a 6 to me.

Am I just seeing things....can you get closer?

Thanks  :)
