hello
I am a new member having found a link on the glass message board. I work for the hospice here on the Isle of Wight, researching, pricing and sometimes selling on ebay anything that comes under the umbrella term 'bric-a-brac'. Occasionally I come across something that stumps me and the other people here.
This cup and saucer is part of a small set of 5. The saucers are quite deep. There are no marks (will post picture of base when battery charged up ). The entire pattern seems to be hand painted and not under the glaze. The spot pattern is raised and each set of dots is in a lozenge formed from fine indented grooves. There is a yellow dot in centre of each set of 4 blue dots. One or two dots are worn.
The gilded cartouches contain varied sprays of flowers. The saucers show some staining.
Saucer 14.5 cms diameter    3cms deep
Cup   6.5 cms high    7cms diameter

Jeanne, welcome to the board - I hope we can help with some of your non-glass items here. :)  I have never seen this pattern before so I am stumped - and without any form of backstamps we might struggle to pin in down. Hand-painted indicates older rather than newer, but you probably know that anyhow. :) It could be quite old but we need someone with more knowledge than mine to tell us more - can you tell whether it is hard or soft-paste porcelain or bone china?

Good Afternoon

I had a look at the linked site, thankyou. The saucers have no well in the centre. It would seem to be hard paste porcelain. The cups bear more resemblence to the early coffee cups than the teacups. They have quite straight sides.

It could be from one of the companies shown on that site. Dating to about 1780 to 1820. Might be worth asking him via email.
