JOHANNES MEINTJES, Artist, Author and Historian, 1923 - 1980
http://www.johannes-meintjes.co.za/I just had to share this with you as I'm left breathless by the paintings of an artist of whom I've never previously heard: Johannes Meintjes. The site's creator is very happy for me to share this link with you in the hope of stimulating interest in and discussion about this amazing artist, sculptor and author. The aim is to catalogue all Meintjes works as well as raise his profile once more.
Now you might think that as a South African artist, we may not come across much of his work but you might be wrong, as he spent the years "1945 - 1947 in London, studying at the Central School of Arts", and "worked part time as a broadcaster for the BBC with composer Arnold van Wyk." [quoted from the above website]
So there must be a chance of coming across works by him from this period still in the UK especially. It would also be interesting to find out if there are any of these in public collections in the UK or elsewhere... or does anyone on the board have one on their walls somewhere?
Album of some of his paintings on the art archives website here:
