Done a bit of 'handy' googling and it's called the 'fig' sign,considered a good luck sign in some places in others obscene.In ancient Greece it was the sign of fertility and in Portugal and Brazil carved hands like this are good luck charms,somewhere to start,hope I've given you a hand :thd: :czy: :24:

Interesting.  Here in Poland, we use that sign to mean 'fig' i.e. 'nothing'.
