Topic: Black Reduction Glazed Vase

This vase has a red clay body that has been turned black through a reduction firing technique.  It has been used in Mexico for a long, long time, but the style of this vase is more European or possibly Oriental. Unfortunately, I can't find any information about this technique being used.  It definitely has some age to it and is good quality work.  Thoughts appreciated, specific information adored.

Hi Forrest, there is something about this thats say's Turkish or maybe pursian ? i will have a mooch about.

Turkish/Persian or related areas seems to be the thinking of people in various groups I've contacted.  This form was probably first done in metal (perhaps bronze or silver) but is certainly known in glass and pottery.  Figuring out who did what where and when is still a problem.

Nothing stylistically similar among the Chinese works and nothing among the Ortiz work.  Middle Eastern still seems most likely.
