Another studio pot to ID please.
« on: October 13, 2007, 08:53:13 PM »
This was bought in the same lot as the fish pattern vase -with several other pieces of good quality ware.
It is almost impossible to read the mark as it is totally covered by the glaze. However when turned into the light at certain angles (as in the horrible pictures) you can just make out the S ,it is slightly to the right of the rectangle. Could it be the St Ives mark - I can imagine the dots ...??
Any ideas ? Thank you
 David

Hi David, there was another potter who used the letter S with a diagonal line and a dot called Stephen Parry.
Could you try the talc trick, or take a pencil rubbing of the mark, it might give us a better idea.

Hi Sue,
No luck at all with this. The mark is so deep under the glaze the talk doesnt hold. I only got that awful image by tilting it into the light at an awkward angle.
I'm realy only imagining or hoping for the dots as nothing else is clear.

As you will know David there are LOTS of 'S' marks or mark that incorporate an 'S' a picture of the base might help? (from a slight angle preferably)
