Hi, I have this wall piece with two tiles, it' racked in a wooden frame so I don' want to get the tiles off. It' signed what looks like Vallauris. I googled for this name but can' seem to find anything about this person. Who is he or her?

Hiya ....
There is a small thread here:
http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=925.0
but not much info, I'm afraid.

The problem is Vallauris is a place in France not a person, see here
http://www.studiopottery.com/cgi-bin/mp.cgi?item=98
. Maybe the tiles are tourist souvenirs.

Picasso produced pottery there, also Guy Sydenham and Tony Morris took glaze from Vallauris in the early 60s which ensured the success of the Poole pottery Delphis range.

Hi Orpheus
Vallauris is a town in the Alpes Maritimes - South of France, where Picasso and many others worked. Some potters signed their names, but many items were just signed by the town name. There are still potteries there, but the majority cater to the tourist trade. Hope this helps!

Hiya Orpheus,
Try Googling the words Roger Capron,Robert Picault,Jean Gerbino & Clement / Jerome Massier. They all are associated with the area of Vallauris (Golf Juan).

Hi Pete
Just a quick note on your FPP Vallauris. Stands for Faiences et Poteries Provencales. Pottery created in 1950 closed 1967. Run by Jean Rossignol and Joseph Calvas-Blanchon.

Thank you very much Annette
I was surprised you were able to ID it from those initials.
