Minton Tiles - John Moyr Smith Shakespeare series
« on: January 17, 2008, 06:28:49 PM »
Does anyone else have any of these 6inch square Minton tiles? They are from the Shakespeare series and were designed by John Moyr Smith and have his monogram IMS on each one. I believe they came in two colourways - a blue background and a beige background. I had three of the latter (now sold on)... and there were quite a few in the series, but I don't know how many.
Cheers!

Apparently there were 24 in the series, Anne  :o http://www.tile-heaven.co.uk/lg-images-txt/01600.htm

24? Wow that is a big series, thanks Della. :) (I'm also astounded at the price quoted for one on the site... I think mine went for around ?30 each on eBay a year or two back.)  I think I prefer the blue ones, but the three I had were rescued from a skip, having been dumped as part of a hotel refit - they were unused ones, spares or leftovers I suppose - which had been found in the cellar and dumped with a load of other stuff! ::)
Cheers!

I have got 4 of the 8 inch Moyr Smith literary tiles that will go up shortly - I will try to remember to pop the pics on here.

They do sell well...  but as we know, prices vary according to where you are looking 8)

edit:  like this one I think  - they are at the bottom of a box, so I can't look at them at the mo.... http://www.tile-heaven.co.uk/lg-images-txt/01719.htm

The ones I really really would like to have are the lustre ones, either Minton or William de Morgan.

But I don't have the requisite mortgage....:24:

I know what you mean Lynne! And the right space to put them in - I doubt they'd match my house somehow! :(
Cheers!

I did think the garden looked a little on the small side for that kind of money!!

I would expect a Capability Brown parkland for that.....

I'm in love with Blackwell.  :love1: But as for the one going for 8.5 (pounds no less) what on earth have they done to the kitchen.  ??? They've killed it.  :hb: Otherwise I would buy it of course  :24: :24: :24:
