It reads: John Wesley M.A. born june 14th 1703 died march 2nd 1791, centenary of Wesleyan methodism 1839, the world is my parish, centenary hall and mission house London

I bet there are not many of these around...

...Except this one but it's not the same

I love all this, my paternal ancestors up north were Wesleyan Methodist.  I'm about to re-start my research on them but there's lots family stories about the temperance movement etc., and I have some certificates from the 19th century of ceremonies from that Church.

I don't know anything about Wesleyans in london though.

I'd love to hear what you find out about your medals.

It says 'Silver'. Do they mean it's solid silver or silver coloured?

It probably means they aren't sure. On the site Anne found it says white metal. The medals are obviously supposed to have a hole at 12 0'clock as yours has as well. I quite like the description of slightly tarnished "Toned a pleasing light lilac-gray with soft iridescent hues "

...I've just noticed, oddly enough, that mine is different.

It says on that one...
John Wesley, M.A born at epworth, June 17th died in london, March 2nd 1791.

Where as mine says...
John Wesley, M.A. Born June 14th 1703. died March 2nd 1791.

So we have a possible miss-print as John Wesley was born on 17th of June, not the 14th as it says on mine.  :o

Actually, this one, the one that Sue gave the link to, has the wrong date as well...

It's possible that some of the differences relate to one medal being for export. But the dates...

This site: http://gbgm-umc.org/umw/wesley/foxwesley.stm gives d-o-b as 17 June 1703 and quotes Fox's Book of Martyrs as the source.  8)

Hey TC, does you Metal detector tell you what kind of metal things are?  I know a person who's metal detector meter tells him what kind of metal (and by the beeping sounds) it makes.

If so, just put your metal detector over it...

It rings on 10c, which is inbetween silver and gold.  :-\
