FLEA MARKET FIND//RUSSIAN ??
« on: September 08, 2007, 09:11:47 AM »
HI  :)  I am pretty sure that this is Russian, but I do not have a clue  :hlp: what the marks 'say, mean, or indicate'?  Does anyone know  ???  Also, does anyone know what age this would be from, and any value?

It is a high gold, marked like russian on the bottom.  It is about 14 inches tall.  I think it is pretty, but then I am wondering if it is worth more than I paid for it, and if it was a good flea market find?

Any information, most Welcome.....    :kissy:  THANKS in advance

It looks like Cyrillic letters but could be from any of several countries I suppose. It may be worth asking here http://groups.msn.com/SovietPorcelainCollectors/_whatsnew.msnw if they can throw any light on it AR, at least it might eliminate a few options if nothing else.
Cheers!

I might have stumbled upon a hint for myself on this mark -- after a year...

Perhaps the GB on the bottom stands for either:

~ GODDARD BROTHERS of Czech Republic (Bohemia, Austria) or;
~ G. BENEDIKT KARLOVY, or also know as Gebr?der Benedikt

I tend to be leaning (maybe) more towards Goddard Brothers....right now, but still researching it....whow knows yet  ???

Anyways, found this info @ http://www.collectorscircle.com/bohemian/porcelain/marks_table1.html#benedikt  and it is the only thing close so far with intials GB...

I am going to BUMP THIS:

From Link (quote) of: http://www.collectorscircle.com/bohemian/porcelain/marks_table1.html
(about 3/4 of the Page down...still the closest MARK that I can find relating to this mystery FROM TWO YEARS AGO)

quote from above LINK:

"Goddard Brothers Marks
Goddard Brothers - Czech Republic (Bohemia, Austria)

This is pure hearsay. Because my birthname is Goddard I had to include this mark.

I found this information on eBay and have not been able to verify it. The seller of a piece with a Mark like this one claims it to be used by a factory named Goddard Brothers in Czechoslovakia in the 1930's and 1940's. However, Gebr?der Benedikt has a Mark very similar to this a heart, crown, and Czecho - Slovakia, without the GB in the center. As intriguing as it is to me to have china with my birthname, I suspect it is really a Gebr?der Benedikt mark."

I am leaning towards GODDARD for this piece I have posted here -- since mine does have the GB in it.....but still NOT confirmed...

If the first 2 letters are IS then it can't be Russian
If the centre initials are GB  then can't be Russian

Do they not have these letters in the Russian alphabet?

Correct.
Their letters for I, S & G are different as shown at the Russian alphabet site, link posted earlier.

I wonder if it's Glassvon, it looks similar to these from the Glassvon 2007 catalogue...

Fixed it Rose, there was a rogue space snook into the link when I wasn't looking! :) It's all in Russian but the catalogues are linked from the third red button down on the left.
Cheers!
